Social Science

Besant Hill School’s Social Sciences Department implements a college preparatory program that instructs students in evaluative thinking skills as they examine perspective and author bias while learning from the past.

By assessing social sciences carefully, we emphatically echo our school’s philosophy that we are all lifelong learners who think critically and synthesize knowledge. Using the Socratic method of discovery, students learn the history of America and the global world.

The department challenges students to examine history, psychology, and art through a multi-faceted and interdisciplinary approach, incorporating many supplementary materials and texts to illustrate a myriad of peoples’ perspectives.

History is centered around critical thinking, synthesizing knowledge, and understanding perspective. In the history classroom we get to become detectives and discover how and why others lived the way they did in the past. We are constantly living out Aún Aprendo.
