Since 1946, our small California boarding school has been an environment where adolescents are cared for and allowed to grow while they’re encouraged to be themselves in a culture of learning. Our students take what they learn and synthesize new knowledge. They learn to use innovation to solve the problems they face. Most importantly, they become adaptable to change and new learning. The independence students gain and the friendships and bonds they forge while boarding at a preparatory school like ours enables them to realize success, both in college and in life. We think that’s pretty invaluable.
Each day, we strive to continue the mission of our founders. We work individually with every student as they follow their passion and strive to achieve their goals. By fulfilling this promise, we hope to instill the unique set of values of the Besant Hill School Portrait of a Graduate that honor individuality, critical thinking, creative and artistic passions, global citizenship, and environmental activism. We honor individuality, critical thinking, creative and artistic passions, global citizenship, and environmental activism.
At Besant Hill School, we are committed to lifelong scholarship. Past students reflect on everything from our teachers’ methods of instruction, to our focus on environmental study, to our thriving arts program as just a few of the many reasons they loved their time with us.
I know you will enjoy exploring our many photos galleries, videos, and finding the information you need about courses and programs. By exploring the site, reading our viewbook and school magazine. I trust you’ll quickly see that we are a community of creativity, learning, and respect. Our unique approach to education and our small size, committed faculty and staff, and beautiful location, are what distinguish Besant Hill School from any other boarding school you may visit. You will find many examples of our extraordinary mission in action, not only with our current students, but in the highlights from our alumni as well. I think you’ll find our portrait of the graduate in all of them…and our mission is as alive as ever.
If you are a student interested in joining the Besant Hill School community, I encourage you to apply right away, and I personally invite you to Ojai, California for a visit.
