Since 1946 our small California boarding school has been an environment where adolescents are cared for, allowed to grow, and can be themselves in a culture of learning. Our students take what they learn and synthesize new knowledge, by being innovative about the problems they are facing, by becoming adaptable to change and new learning.
Each day we live a promise to continue the mission of our founders by working individually with each student as they follow their passions and strive to achieve their goals. By fulfilling this promise, we hope to instill the unique set of values of the Besant Hill School Portrait of a Graduate that honor individuality, critical thinking, creative and artistic passions, global citizenship, and environmental activism.
We encourage a commitment to lifelong scholarship, and many of our alumni return to reconnect with the land, former teachers, and speak to current students about their life experiences.
I know you will enjoy exploring our many photos galleries, videos, and finding the information you need about courses and programs. By exploring the site, reading our viewbook and school magazine, you will quickly realize that we are a community of creativity, learning, and respect. Our unique approach to education along with our small size, a committed faculty and staff, and beautiful location, distinguishes Besant Hill School from any other school you may visit. You will find many examples of our extraordinary mission in action, not only with our current students but in the highlights from our alumni as well. I think you will find our portrait of the graduate in all of them…and our mission as alive as ever.
If you are a student interested in joining the Besant Hill School community, I encourage you to apply right away and I personally invite you to Ojai, California for a visit.
