Our Aquatics program, housed in the state-of-the-art Lee Sanders Aquatics Center, is a valuable addition to our fitness offerings. It provides comprehensive training in water safety, swim stroke techniques, and water sports. For those who wish to enhance their water sports abilities or gain more confidence before learning to surf, Aquatics is an excellent choice.
The Lee Sanders Aquatic Center, named in memory of a beloved 1960 alumnus, includes a 25m seven-lane competitive swim pool, a 20 ft by 25 ft shallow recreation pool area, and plenty of deck space to take in the Southern California sunshine. The pool is also regulated water polo size, allowing it to be flexible for many potential uses. A changing and restroom building just off the pool deck allows for ease of use for our students to prepare for swimming activities. Beautiful views of the Besant Hill campus, the Topa Topa Mountains, and the Ojai Valley can be seen from every area of the pool deck, as the facility’s placement is perfect for maximizing natural aesthetics.
The Circuit Training program focuses on functional movements that are constantly varied and performed at high intensity. We work on core strength, conditioning, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, and balance. Safety is a top priority in our Circuit Training program, ensuring that each workout includes a warmup, stretching, strength training/conditioning, and a cool down. We teach techniques, skills, and safety for every move, and we also spend time reflecting on the workouts and the specific areas of our bodies they are strengthening.

Noted worldwide as the “Gold Coast” of California, the coastline from Ventura to Carpinteria boasts multiple renowned surf breaks, including the famous Rincon Point. Given our proximity to barreling beach breaks, some of the most extended point breaks in the world, and easy access to beginner waves, students can surf waves of all different types. Whether a student is focused on cross-stepping a longboard, maximizing their “tube time,” or landing their next aerial rotation, our expert coaches help prepare them to search for the perfect wave. The course is structured around four key surfing principles: Culture, Etiquette, Fitness, and Style. This holistic approach lays the foundation for a lifetime of surfing. Surfing occurs in the fall and spring seasons. On average, the team ventures to the ocean two to three days a week. Days on campus are spent in the pool training for the ocean with fitness activities and working on endurance and swimming skills.
