Fall Play 2013: The Real Inspector Hound

The Real Inspector HoundOn Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9, the Performing Arts Department presented Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound in the Zalk Theater. This sophisticated comedy/parody of classic Agatha Christie murder mysteries starred Michael H. as Moon, Jordan S. as Birdboot, Ilana Ariel as Mrs. Drudge, Tristin K. as Simon Gascoyne, Amber M. as Felicity Cunnigham, Anja J. as Lady Cynthia Muldoon, Ashley S. as Major Magnus Muldoon, Kane S. as Inspector Hound, and Jacob L as the dead body and radio announcer.

The Real Inspector Hound is a play within a play where fantasy and reality become one. The “play” onstage is a whodunnit being reviewed by two arrogant and competitive critics.

One of the critics has had a short fling with the actress playing Felicity in the “play” and, through a series of plot twists and turns, he ends up onstage where he shortly meets his demise both in the “play” and in reality. Enter second-string critic Moon, who suddenly becomes Inspector Hound and, as his colleague before him, he, too, meets an untimely death at the hands of a third-string critic posing as Major Muldoon and the “real” Inspector Hound.

The cast had incredible support from Ruby Jane S and Anna G, the hardworking stage crew, with Tait N as stage manager. Isabelle W operated lights and sound right on que!

The students handled this complicated and erudite script with great aplomb, and the audience, while at times bemused by all the plot turns, thoroughly enjoyed the show. Both nights were very well attended!
