Students Sea the Future in Seaweed

During a special presentation this week, ocean farmer Antoinette Marquez educated us on the history, global impact, and importance of  sea kelp and how she has harnessed the health benefits of kelp as a food source and also to create health products.

PharmerSea is a 25-acre sea farm located off of Ellwood pier in Santa Barbara, California operated by Antoinette and her husband Daniel, a Santa Barbara native, in partnership with Greenwave to introduce 3-D ocean farming to the West Coast.

Antoinette’s presentation ended with students and faculty receiving kelp soaps and sponges and a lot of curiosity throughout the community to dive deeper into the subject of kelp to “sea” how we can incorporate this sustainable product into our lives.
