International Week 2021

The school has been abuzz with activities this week that celebrate our international community, and we have greatly enjoyed learning with each other!

Latin Dancing

International Week began Monday morning with a whole school Latin Dance lesson. We learned choreography and then shared our talents with one another. A fun time was had by all!

Sword Fighting

Monday afternoon students learned about the diverse cultural history of sword fighting and how to wield their very own PVC sword. Sword fighting nicely lent itself to a physically distanced and fun activity.

Tai Chi

Tuesday morning, we began our day with 45 minutes of Tai Chi. We connected with the earth and listened to the morning sounds of our beautiful Happy Valley. It was a most pleasant and relaxing way to begin our day.

Peace Flags Activity

Tuesday afternoon, the students created peace flags together in class connections groups. This activity is inspired by The Peace Flag Project, a nonprofit organization that encourages people from all countries, faiths, and identities to make flags that express their wishes for the world. The flags are intended to be strung up outside where the wind will disperse their messages.

Bluegrass Band

Wednesday afternoon the school enjoyed live music on the soccer field. A local bluegrass band played songs from Appalachia and taught us about the history and musical origins of bluegrass music.

International Week Walk

Thursday morning, the school community donned their matching turquoise International Week t-shirts and strolled the campus together. It was a beautiful day to take in the scenery and share casual conversation.

Student Taught Language Classes

After spending the last few weeks training with Nestor, student volunteers lead classes in their native language on Thursday afternoon. Special thanks to our student teachers for giving up your free time to practice and learn how to teach.
