Distinguished Speaker Series with Dan Malloy
This Wednesday we were honored to have Dan Malloy as our second Distinguished Speaker of the year. Malloy has traveled the world as a professional surfer and, along with his older brothers Chris and Keith, continues his globe-trotting as Patagonia’s surfing ambassador.
Malloy spoke about his career in surfing, his work with Patagonia, and his more recent endeavors as a filmmaker, Ojai homesteader, and farming policy advocate. The presentation included films featuring and directed by Dan, a substantive and open conversation/interview with Kevin Henschel, and great questions from the audience.
Following in the footsteps of their father, the Malloy brothers have been blazing trails off the beaten path since before they knew how to stand up on a surfboard. Their love of adventure has brought them to remote beaches all over the globe, earned them spots at the top of the competitive surfing world, and fueled their endless exploration.
Slow is Fast
Dan, along with filmmaker Kellen Keene, and photographer Kanoa Zimmerman set out on a two-month adventure in their own backyard of California and published a book.
Directed by Dan Malloy, Harvesting Liberty is a short film that documents visionaries Michael Lewis (of Growing Warriors) and Rebecca Burgess (of Fibershed) as they collaborate to reintroduce industrial hemp to the American landscape.
