Distinguished Speakers Series Welcomes Alumnus Gunnar Lovelace ’95

It was an amazing, groundbreaking year for our Distinguished Speaker Series. Our final guest was founder and CEO of Thrive Market, Gunnar Lovelace ’95. The inspiring conversation started with his personal history and path as an entrepreneur. He reflected on the different businesses he started leading to the founding of Thrive Market (www.thrivemarket.com). As described by CBS Good Morning, “Thrive Market is what would happen if Whole Foods and Costco had a baby online!”  While there were many questions asked and answered about the success of his companies, much of the conversation was more about living a life of gratitude and giving back than about business. Some of the more poignant comments from Gunnar came while he reflected on his time at Happy Valley. Gunnar spoke beautifully about embracing fear—recognizing that Happy Valley for him was a place to address and confront those fears that hold us back from becoming our best selves. It was a pleasure and honor to host him, and we are so grateful for the time he spent with our community.

It was a powerful and inspiring finish to this year’s Distinguished Speakers Series that have featured Dan Malloy (Patagonia), Bruce Hamilton (Sierra Club), and Margaret Huang (Amnesty International USA).
