Commendations Dinner, Awards Ceremony, & Passing of the Torch

The evening before commencement includes a formal dinner to honor our entire student body, faculty, and staff. Following dinner, families join in for our Commendations Awards Ceremony. Each semester Commendations Awards recognize students for academic as well as community achievement. Students are recognized for residential leadership and one student per semester is honored with the Coyote Award. This award is given at the end of the commendations ceremony to honor a student who has shown leadership, outstanding participation, and enthusiasm in all areas of the auxiliary curriculum. Auxiliary curriculum areas include: community service, advisory, clubs, habitat crews, experiential education, class connections, sustainability, performing arts, sports and fitness. A special tribute video was shown to honor longtime Sustainability Director Tod Cossairt, who retired this year. For over two decades Tod has been a parent, administrator, teacher, mentor, and friend to the school’s community. This tribute video was shown tonight during the 2017 Commendations Ceremony where Tod received a specially commissioned, handcrafted bamboo fly fishing rod, inscribed with the school’s motto “Aun Aprendo” and one of Tod’s many nicknames “Woodchip.” Following the awards and tribute, the community gatheered around the bonfire where seniors passed a lit candle to rising seniors in the annual Passing of the Torch ceremony.
