A BESANT HILL SCHOOL EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROJECT
March 9-18, 2012
Service Learning in Costa Rica with Sustainable Horizon
Students will travel to the indigenous community of Boruca to work together on a service project. Students will be paired together for a home stay experience with a local host family. Upon completion of their service project, the group will head toward to coast for some rest, relaxation, and adventure on a Costa Rican beach. Students will experience the diversity of Costa Rican ecosystems while hiking through a wet forest and zip lining though the canopy of trees in search of monkeys and sloths.
In Costa Rica students will:
- Live in a rural Costa Rican community
- Participate in a meaningful service project. (Service projects may include: reforestation, teaching basic English, restoring community buildings, and more
- Play pick up soccer games with local children
- Learn about Borucan indigenous culture
- Relax on Costa Rica's pristine beaches
- Hike through dense rainforests in search of animals like monkeys, sloths and many tropical birds
- Zip line through the forest canopy
