Looking Ahead to Summer 2017
Following our Class of 2017 commencement ceremony on June 3rd, the summer heats up with two Ojai Music Festival events, hosting of the Eighth Blackbird Creative Lab, Besant Hill School Summer Institute programs, and the 20th anniversary of the Ojai Playwrights Conference. Current students have also been accepted to a number of prestigious summer programs.
Where Will Our Students Be This Summer?
We congratulate current Besant Hill School students for their acceptance to the following summer programs this year:
Besant Hill School Summer Institute, Boston University, Brown University, Cornell University, Envision Advanced Emergency Medicine at Stanford University, Johns Hopkins, Millennium Dance Complex, New York Times Summer Institute, Ojai Playwrights Conference, Outward Bound, Pratt Institute, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Student Conservation Corps & Congress
On Campus Events & Programs:
“At a morning concert at the Besant Hill School—an institution whose founders include Krishnamurti and Aldous Huxley—I.C.E. presented Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s “In the Light of Air,” for viola, cello, piano, harp, percussion, and electronics. The piece began in low light, with filament bulbs hanging from the ceiling. The instruments offered up a subdued, eerie fabric of timbres: ghostly glissandos on the viola and cello, fingertips and Super Balls brushing the strings of the harp and piano…Suddenly, the wall at the back of the auditorium was rolled aside, ushering in the bright-gray light and chilly breeze of a cloudy Ojai morning. Nothing I witnessed in opera houses this past season was as dramatic.”
