B. A. Universidad de Michoacán (UMSNH), Mexico

A child of teachers, Néstor grew up in Mexico, where he became fluent in English and French. He attended schools where his father and siblings were teachers. He then attended and graduated from Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH) in central Mexico.

Before coming to BHS, he worked for Ventura Unified School District for 16 years. He taught Spanish classes for 5 years to teachers through Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Office in association with California Lutheran University, focusing on language proficiency and passing of California's bilingual exam (B-CLAD). In Mexico, he worked as a teacher at Colegio de Bachilleres de Michoacan for three years and at Harmon Hall, a renowned school of languages for 4 years where he served as Academic Coordinator. He also currently works as a teacher, translator and consultant at Ventura County Medical Center in association with UCLA School of Medicine, where he teaches Spanish to health care employees. His students range from surgeons, family doctors, nurses, social workers, dietitians to hospital administrators whose goal is accurate and native-like communication.

At BHS, Néstor enjoys the small-classroom learning experience that he feels benefits both student and teacher. He utilizes the Full Immersion principle. Spanish is the ONLY language spoken during class, whether students are in Spanish I or AP Spanish. He teaches using the Natural Approach method and TPR (Total Physical Response). Néstor’s goal is that students take their learning commitment beyond the classroom, gain a second language and apply it to their everyday life.

He enjoys cooking, gardening, coaching gymnastics and spending time and taking road trips with his family. Néstor lives in Ojai with his wife Lisa and their three daughters, one of whom attends BHS.
