Mary was raised in the San Fernando Valley and is a California native. Following twelve years of Catholic school, she attended San Fernando Valley College and studied Baking and Kitchen Management at San Fernando Vocation School. Before coming to BHS, she worked in numerous restaurants and institutions. She has always loved to cook but especially loves baking and making desserts.
Mary has lived in Ojai for 25 years and her three children graduated from HVS. They loved it! She joined Besant Hill School (then Happy Valley School) in 1992 as a cook and kitchen helper. She has worked with BHS Chef Juana Juarez for 18 years and considers Juana her best friend. Together, they like to create new, healthy recipes using the resources around them, particularly the fruits and vegetables from the garden and orchards in the BHS campus. In her own words: "I have loved having the opportunity to be creative and to make the community and students happy by providing them good, healthy meals. It is such an important part of our lives!"
