Lee was born in Souix Falls, South Dakota, son of a fighter pilot and CIA operative who flew countless combat missions in WW2, Korea and Vietnam (Stanley A. Rollag - Retired Air Force Colonel). The family moved every two years, spending four years in Northridge, California. High School began at Granada Hills High and finished with graduation at Hampton High, Virginia.

Lee began piano lessons at the age of 8 and picked up guitar at 14, then violin at age 24. He also played trumpet in Nobel Jr. High concert band and later in a 9-piece R&B funk band.

Lee returned to California after three years of college in Virginia to study music at Ventura College and perform with Ventura-based ensembles, including the Ventura College Jazz Band and Community Orchestra. His studies were interrupted when he landed a job with Grammy and Tony-award winner Roger Miller in 1981, and he spent the next nine years touring the U.S. and Canada, performing at headliner showrooms in Las Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, and Atlantic City, state fairs and major venues. He also performed on T.V. shows Austin City Limits, Soundstage, Farm Aid 2, Willie Nelson's 4th of July concert and an HBO special featuring Roger and Doug Kershaw. Lee also performed with the Dallas Symphony and Houston Pops Orchestra as Roger's guitarist and toured with Gary Morris, Chris Hillman, Jim Messina, John McCuen and other Ventura County based groups. Others that Lee has performed on stage with include Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, Joe Cocker, Hal Ketcham, Buddy Emmons, Stuart Duncan and Danny Gatton. Over the years, Lee has been involved in numerous recording sessions. He continues to perform and record when scheduling allows, usually in L.A. or Santa Barbara.

Lee enjoys working with the students at Besant Hill School, bringing insight from years of professional experience to the classroom.

He is an avid surfer and baseball player and an occasional golfer. He is married with 5 children and lives in Ventura.
