Greg has had drumsticks in his hands since the age of 4 when his older brother introduced him to drumming. In grade school he played saxophone in the school music ensemble and in high school joined the marching band as a snare drummer. In college he majored in Music Performance at Southwestern College and at S.D.S.U. Through the years, he has realized and nurtured his deep passion for creative musical expression and performance. He has been part of many musical groups performing in jazz, funk, country, R&B and rock bands. Greg has also played percussion for several dance groups in the styles of Afro-Cuban, West African and tap Dance.
In 2004 before joining this amazing community, Greg was living in San Diego and performing and teaching music. He first learned about Besant Hill when he was visiting his wife Barb (whom he was dating at the time) who had just been hired as a science teacher. In October of Barb’s 1st year here, Greg was asked to go on BHS’s Fall Trip and went backpacking with the Mt. Brewer group. Then in December he got to teach a drumming workshop during BHS’s Winterm. The more he was exposed to the BHS community the more he fell in love with the people here and the philosophy of the school. The following school year he joined the BHS community as Residential Faculty. Tod Cossairt took him under his wing and began teaching him the ways of the community and of council. In his heart he felt that he was home. Soon after, he joined Lee in the Music Department and began teaching music.
