SCREENWRITING / FILM PRODUCTION

Instructor: Ray Singer

The Screenwriting/Film Production Course is an introduction to screenplay creation and structure, and a hands-on film production class. The goal of the class is for students to be comfortable with the technical aspects of filmmaking, and to learn the language of visual story telling.

Students will create several short films of increasing complexity, and experience most aspects of pre-production planning, production and post-production editing, scoring, etc, on these films. Students both direct their own films and serve as crew on other students’ films.

Film production is challenging and fun, but it’s also time consuming. It takes strong commitment. Students should be aware that they will sometimes be called to work on weekends and evenings. Time management skills are crucial to both filmmaking and to any student who wishes to enroll in the class.

BHS provides limited video, lighting, audio and editing equipment and software. For this reason class size is limited to 6 dedicated students. Students are welcome to provide their own equipment and gear, but it is not required.

Level: All levels
Prerequisite: None
