Dance

Dance is a beautiful art form in which people can express their passion and creativity through movement.

Exploring Various Styles

During our time together, students will be introduced to dance, movement, and creative exploration through various styles of dance such as ballet, jazz, modern, tap, social dances, and the current commercialized style known as hip hop. Students will learn dance technique through ballet barre work with correct body alignment, conditioning, traveling floor and center combinations, and choreography.

Vocabulary & History

Throughout the trimester, students will also touch on important vocabulary pertaining to each style of dance introduced, historical and current figures that helped to create and develop what we know as classical dance, basic anatomy for a dancer, health and nutrition, injury prevention, and basic staging and theater terminology. By the end of each session, students will have the working knowledge of dance, and will have had the opportunity to create their own original dance piece.

Performance Opportunities

There will be performance opportunities for the students to not only show the dance technique and skills that they have learned, but to give them the opportunity and experience of performing for a live audience. It is my hope that at the end of this journey, students gain a deeper respect and passion for the art of dance.
